Dear Reader,

I have shared steps that have certainly helped me live a healthier, happier life. Conscious breathing can mean the difference between simply surviving in life or thriving. Which do you choose?

The following is a short article I wrote several years ago.

The Benefits of Breathing!
Staying alive is the first thing that comes to mind. And after that comes the rest of the story. The quantity, quality and circulation of the breath are the foundation of a vital and creative life. Our breath is our connection to life – our life force.

Many of us only use about one-fifth of our lung capacity. Just think about how much more life force, life energy, is available to us just by consciously breathing deeper and with awareness. Breathing affects our respiratory, cardio-vascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, muscular and psychic systems and also has a general effect on our sleep, our memory, our energy level, and our concentration. Consciously breathing, breathing with awareness using various specific breathing techniques positively affects all aspects of of ourselves. Breathing assists in cleansing the body and mind of toxins. The deeper the breath, the cleaner we get. How simple is that?

Conscious breathing is like inhaling food for the body, mind and soul. As long as we have breath in our bodies, we have the potential to create happy, healthy, joyful lives.

****************
Here is a breathing technique called Long Deep Breathing in yogic teachings.
Some people call it simply belly breathing. Here is how you can make the most out of every breath you take.

Long Deep Breathing

Inhale deeply through your nose.

Feel as though you are pulling the breath down into your navel center.

Drop the diaphragm, release the abdomen. As the breath begins to fill the lungs, the abdomen, diaphragm and chest will expand.

Think of blowing your torso up like a balloon.

Keep inhaling until your lungs have taken in all they can hold.

Exhale

The breath is the foundation of our awareness and our moods. The breath is both voluntary and involuntary. It is the vital force that energizes the mind and body.

What this breathing technique will do for you.

Relaxes and calms

Gives clarity, cool-headedness and patience

Reduces and prevents build-up of toxins in the lungs

Stimulates the brain chemicals that help to fight depression

Strengthens the aura (the electromagnetic field around the body)

Breath plus your concentration stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete and enhances intuition

Pumps spinal fluid to the brain.

…and more

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
